Details
Many students have experienced disruptions to their learning in recent months. This class will boost their confidence and deepen their reading and writing skills so they can quickly get back on track!
In this fun weekly class, students will develop and deepen their reading and writing skills. We will be English Detectives and investigate how to develop and improve our work!
This is not a class for beginning readers. This is a class for students who can already read and write relatively independently – this class will build on those skills! (If you’re not sure if this class is suitable for your learner – please get in touch! I also run a similar class for 6-8 year olds.)
We will develop key reading and writing skills, explore grammar, learn parts of speech and language devices, and study articles, stories and poems. Lessons will be presented on powerpoint slides, with occasional accompanying worksheets. The lessons will be fun and interactive, with short bursts of activities to keep students engaged.
The topic for the first ten sessions will be:
Week 1 (beginning 19th April) – Awesome adjectives
Week 2 – (beginning 26th April) – Shakespeare’s Globe
Week 3 – (beginning 3rd May) – How to write a paragraph
Week 4 – (beginning 10th May) – Reading poems
Week 5 – (beginning 17th May) – Write a book review
Week 6 – (beginning 24th May) – Words, words, words!
Week 7 – (beginning 31st May) – Creative Writing Masterclass – write a story! (using a photo prompt)
Week 8 – (beginning 7th June) – Perfect personification
Week 9 (beginning 14th June) – What the papers say
Week 10 (beginning 21st June) – Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
Week 11 (beginning 28th June) – Writing a letter
Week 12 (beginning 5th July) – Describe a scene – practice descriptive writing
Week 13 (beginning 12th July) – Ice cream poems!
Week 14 (beginning 19th July) – It’s summer! Word games party!
