Course Details

As children read, infer, compare, and analyze a variety of poems & poetic forms, and understand poet’s intent, & style of communication they engage and enrich their critical thinking skills.

Students develop and enrich creative expression, vocabulary, language skills, and imagination, as students mess with rhythm, metaphors, similes, & more while writing their own poems.

To encourage children to delve into the depths of their emotions, thoughts, and imaginations freely in poetic explorations without worrying much about generating a compliant prescribed output.

Cultivate an appreciation for poetry, as students explore the beauty, intricacy, wonder, and intelligence involved in the act of writing & reading poems.

Foster positive interactions, brainstorming, and collaboration among students

Develop elasticity of mind, freedom of expression, abstract thinking and problem solving as children delve into the world of poetry

Students read, and attempt to write a variety of poems and poetic forms in this 4C’s combo class. We read aloud a poem, or two, or more from a selected collection of age, and grade level appropriate poems in each class.

Following which we engage students in interactive thinking skill exercises, like identifying the speaker, interpreting the theme of the poem, word meanings, expressions, poet’s intent, form & structure, compare and contrast, and so on activities. Children actively discuss, debate & validate their analysis with peers as they engage in exercises, and activities in class.

In the following weeks, we nudge students to mess with poetry using innovative scaffolds and writing prompts. Students are encouraged to make an attempt at writing their own poems or modify an existing poem to their liking. We follow each child’s lead in this creative exploration and guide them to try harder, by teaching relevant methods, and encouraging (with positive feedback) & inspiring them to write more.

Students engage in creative expression, and critical exploration with poetry, with enthusiasm – stretching their own comfort zone, and inspiring each other in this super fun, highly interactive, & positively inspiring & expressive class.

FAQ

This is an interactive, instructor led small group online class that will be conducted on a zoom meeting. Students are given many opportunities to share, and interact with peers, and teachers in class. Each child is given individual attention when needed, to ensure that every child grasps the concepts, and participates actively in class, while making progress towards accomplishing their goals.

The class invites children in grades 3 to 5  to explore the world of poetry in foundational ways, engaging their ability to create and explore abstract beauty, expression and wonder.

The class caters to students with both advanced and emerging skills, the goal is to advance each child’s abilities with practice. We assess problem solving skills of each student, and progress them accordingly with engaging & differentiated learning exercises.

The activities, and exercises during the first class are largely geared towards understanding children’s ability to engage with poetry and analyze & infer. Further, we engage in many interactive activities, to build rapport among students, and between each student & instructor. It is very essential for all students to attend the first class of each session.

Yes, parents will be provided with a post lesson summary of the concepts taught, and exercises practiced in each session, through email, WhatsApp & course reference page. Further parents will be notified in advance, when students need any other learning materials/supplies for class activities.

Our research suggest that children learn, and engage better when they learn together with a diverse group of older, younger, and same age peers.
